I need to know what kind of rivet I should use for this situation. On the back of my boat, on each side of the motor well, I have a small platform. Under the platform is where I store my gas tanks. This is where the kids climb out of the water from the ladder and stand. These platforms were riveted to the underside of the gunnell. The rivets have pulled loose and need to be re-done, however, I don't have access to the inside of the gunnell so I need some sort of blind rivet. I tried using pop rivets, but all that I had were 1/8 inch and they didn't seem to pull up tight. Is there something else that I should try.

Ayuh,... How about 3/16" rivets, maybe alittle Longer or something...
I think Poprivets are the way to Go,...
The "Closed end' 1s are used Below the waterline...

Do a search on the term 'nutserts'. We use them at work. There are probably stainless steel ones available. It is an expanding nut used in blind holes like the one you describe. You do not need the fancy installation tool. (unless you just want it) We install them with a bolt and a couple of washers. If you want to try them, look them over and I will run you through the install.

one example, there are many others

Huck rivets work great. You will need to rent or some how get a hold of a huck gun.
Here is a link to show what I'm talking about. You can get them at most fastener supply stores like fastenal.

The link is just to show an example. You can get them in stainless or aluminum also.
