Thanks, I got some ideas on how to do it. My question is about pounds of thrust for my boat.

Hi Big

I would get nothing less than a 50Lb thrust motor for your size boat. Thrust also depends on the area you plan to use the boat and type of use. Heavy winds or waves and you will need to go higher. Also, if you plan on troll fishing, it would be good to go with a higher thrust motor. If you just plan on occasional use and moving around fishin' spots on a relatively calm lake, then 50-74 thrust will do fine. Here's a good guide and info page:

web page

Big HE,

50# minimum. You'll have to decide, if you go much over 50#, if you want a 12 volt or 12/24 volt motor. Of course a 12/24 will require two trolling motor batteries.

Cool...So 50lb is the highest I could get with one battery? And 50lbs will be fine?

Are you looking at the salt-water models? Or are you a fresh water fisherman? I've been going back and forth between the 3 battery set-up and the 2. And the Minn Kota or Motorguide dilema. And the bow tiller or foot control. And the rack & pinion or the 18' cable. Lots of decisions, but it's a sizeable purchase so........ Good Luck!

Not sure if the 1 battery setup will work for your boat. I have a 20' but it's aluminum so it's lighter than yours. Think you should go for the 74 MK or 82MG. Just my opinion.

So 3 batteries total? One for outboard and 2 for the trolling motor?

Big HE,

Yep, that's right, if you go with a 24 Volt motor.

A very good rule of thumb to use is 1 pound of thrust for ever 100 lbs. This rule is based on generally quite water. For rougher water conditions you need to double that figure. As most here have suggested, 50lbs. ought to do.
Best of Luck,

Mako
