Greetings board members,

I'm looking to install a fuel filter / water separator on my boat and noticed there are many different filtration levels available, 10 micron, 20 micron, 28 micron, etc. What would be the appropriate level of filtration to insure that all of the water is filtered out of my gas? Thanks for your help................Lee

Filters do not filter water out of your gas. They filter dirt out of your gas. The water separator has nothing to do with the filter part. Tighter filtration is good to an extent until it starts to affect flow IF you need the extra flow. 10 micron is pretty tight. Thats almost the size of bacteria. It doesnt hurt to filter fuel to that level but it really doesnt help much either. 40-100 micron is fine and they last longer.

wired247, thanks for your comments. This would be the first filter/separator I've used, so it's all new to me and with the various level of filtration, I had no idea that it doesn't necessarily apply to the water separation function. Thanks again................Lee
