Hopefully an easy answer: I'm just looking to see what kind of lower unit oil I should be putting in my 1990 Yamaha 9.9HP 4 stroke high thrust. I would ask the guy at the parts counter at the yamaha dealer, but they sold me the wrong lube last year (different motor). I quite frankly don't trust them! If I can just use standard lower unit oil, then I am actually set because I still have some at home.

Go to the Yamaha website and see if they have an owners manual to download. More than likely 90W gear oil but check the manual.

Manuals are only available online for 1998 and newer.

Ask your local dealer. He shouldn't have a problem telling you.
