I am a complete novice when it come to boats or anything that floats. I'm am a keen cyclist and have done several long distance tours including tour d'afrique and across europe.
Now i would like to put together a pedal boat capable of enduring a long expedition at sea. So can anyone recommend any boats that are very light, stable and can take a real battering. I have bought a pedal drivetrain which is like an outboard, so it will fit any boat.

But what makes a boat stable at sea, whilst doing low speeds?

Thankyou

i can not think of anything small enough to pedal, that would be seaworthy. of course it could be carbon fiber, but keeping it upright is the problem. all boats have their limitations in open water.

Thankyou for the quick replies. I've just looked on the ocean rowing website. There's several suitable boats for conversion. Anyone want to pedal across the atlantic with me?

I saw something on the Discovery channel about a guy who had a pedal boat. Seems he was trying a cross Atlantic run, but I can't remember. Anyway, it was like a watertight torpedo looking thing. Your propulsion mechanism wouldn't work on this boat I don't think. As I remember, it was quite a miserable journey for him. He also had a support boat following him obviously.

There's a guy planning to pedal his way across the Atlantic this year. Have a look at "http://www.adventuresofgreg.com/" or google "Greg Kolodziejzyk".
