If the link I posted isn't the correct Bayliner decoder, I may be wrong, but per that info, the CA isn't a model designation, it's part of the serial #.
Did they make more then 17576 (maiximum # of possible serial #'s w/ 3 letters, using a 26 letter alphabet, cubed) of your boat in 1988?
If so, then the model wouldn't be a portion of the serial #, they'd need the extra digits as part of the serial#. If they didn't, then perhaps it is the model #.
And 1950, could be anything greater then 19' and shorter then 20', boat manufacturer's clearly can't read an english or a metric tape measure.... May be more accurate now. 'Newest' boat in my fleet is at least 35yrs old, probably older.
