What Motor do I have?

Hi: I just purchased a 1978 Crestliner 22 cuddy with an OMC 235 V8 and OMC 800 drive. Could someone please tell me if this motor is a Ford or GM and the actual size cubic inches ? The distributor is at the back. Thanks..

I have a 1976 235, and it is on a electricshift. That is a Ford 351W.

According to an aftermarket manual, 1977 was the last year of 235 HP. In 1978 the 351W was 240 HP and the 1979 351W was 250 HP. Like I said, aftermarket manual, not gospel.

You can absolutely rule out ANY Ford V-8 if your dizzy is aft.
I will look at some chevy info.

In 1978 OMC had a GM 305 cid that was 225 HP.

Can you take some picks? Did GM cast a firing order on the intake, like Ford did? Any other clues?

Again, the easiest item to check is the distributor cap. It is in front of the carburetor or behind it? If in front it is a Ford, if behind the carb it's a Chevy or other model. There was a 351W with 233HP (I know cause I have one), but there could have been an OMC version that was rated 2HP higher.

Yeah Man, that's why I am suggesting looking for chevy clues.

I can spot just about any Ford V-8, but not good with the GM.

In 1979 305 cid was 230 HP. From what I have, 1979 was the first of the 350 CID's, but I haven't found HP yet.

Once you find some more clues and maybe pics, the resident chevy guys will be able to give you more detail.

The distributor is behind the carb and it has 235 on the rocker covers. The outdrive is a 78 cause the transom seal bellows is the 909527 which started in 78, the 77 seal is different.

Ayuh,.... It's a SBC..... It don't matter which 1 til you tear into it....

Probably a 5.7(GM) with 2 barrel carb.
