what motor will work?

i have a 76 boat with a merc 302.. the motor is bad i was just wondering if there is a 302 out of a car or truck that would just bolt in and be easier on gas and with more power..

short answer NO.you probably could use a car/truck engine block but u will have to change the camshaft over to a marine cam and replace all the freeze out plugs with brass core plugs

i was just asking if the bolt holes for the mounts and intake/exhaust were the same or not and in what motors

Yes the bolt holes are the same. The block itself is the exact same, it will need brass freeze plugs.

The camshaft in an auto motor is much different.It makes the most horsepower at higher rpms as a marine cam creates more power at lower rpms.So the cam will need to be changed.
