what now????????

i finally got my 73 johnson 85 hp motor to stay runing after 4 months of trying.took it out the other day for the first time.got on the water putted out at 1/2 throttle.got out away from the docks try to go wot.and the engine just spun like your tranny on a car when it is dieing.the motor is fine at 1/2 throttle but dont try to go any further. what should i do now? :confused: :confused:

It could be starving for fuel. Try squeezing the primer bulb or pushing the choke in and see if it picks up speed. If so you need to check for restrictions; loose fuel lines, weak fuel pump or dirty carbs. If the motor sat for a long time I would lean towards the carbs.

If it's acting like a car slipping on ice, it's the hub in the prop. It has "spun-out", which means the rubber part in the prop has let go of it's bond on the prop shaft hub. Remove the prop, and take it to a prop shop to have a new hub pressed in. About 30bucks or so, and You'll be back in the saddle.

I had the carbs taken apart and cleaned at the marina just a week ago. I will try the prop idea.<br />Thanks alot for the info. If you can think of anything else, it would be appreciated.
