What octane gas for Volvo Penta AQ170a??

Read the manual and it says to run 97 octane or will cause engine damage. Obviously outdated however I've been running 87. should i switch to 92 ?? if i mix the two is that ok?

The octane rating method in your manual is probably RON or Resarch Octane Number. The octane rating method in the US is usually R+M/2 (also called PON). 97 RON is the same as 92 R+M/2. Based on this I would run 92.

Due to the fact that RON is always from 4 to 5 points higher of its equivalent to PON (same as R+M/2), the number conversion between USA and Europe octane ratings will approximately be as follows:

USA (PON) ?> Europe (RON)

87 ?> 91
89 ?> 93
91 ?> 95
92 -> 97
93 ?> 98
