What oil filter?

I have a 93 Sea Ray, 4.3L Merc. Do most guys use the quicksilver filters, or just regular automotive oil filters. I always use Mobil one or Purolator on my cars, so I know they are good filters on the inside. Thoughts? Is there anything special about a boat filter?

I use Purolator: the best one they offer: I think called PureOne . Nothing special about the filters is needed. ;)

Regular automotive is fine.
# 3980 is what you want.
Each mfg will have a different prefix.

I use the Merc filter. Get it at Wal Mart along with the 25W40 oil and Water Sep. Fuel filter. I think the filters are about $7.50 each. No real need to save a few bucks since I only use one a year.

Thanks for all of the replies.
It's not about saving $$, it's more about me knowing how much filtering media is inside a Mobil One and Pure One filter vs the unknown Quicksilver (I don't even know if it has an anti-drainback valve in it). If there is nothing special about the filters, I'll probably stick with what I know.

Well I use either Pure one or Napa Gold in my Jeep. Everything I have read rates them as excellent filters. If I have time I'll cut my old Merc. filter up when I change my oil in a few weeks.
