What oil would you run in the VRO tank on a 89 johnson gt150 to get the
least amount of smoke while your on the water. Just got this boat motor
had oil in the tank but seems to smoke a fair amount i would like less if possible.

Synthetics tend to smoke less, pick one and try it.

Give it a decarb and then use synthetic 2 stroke oil. TCW-3 rated.

For the best results, use a carbon treatment like Carbon Guard or Ring Free in all of your fuel all of the time. If you use BRP XD-50 oil it has the carbon treatment built-in.

You can also use Ring Free or BRP Engine Tuner products for the shock de-carbon treatment.

If you have the Schrader valve on your primer solenoid, the aerosol de-carbon treatment is the preferred method, using an adapter.

Also, make sure that the thermostats are functioning properly.
