I believe Mercury Premium or High Performance oil will work well.

The oil that I have from the merc dealer just says Hi Performance Gear Lube they don't tell you the weight (viscosity) on purpose because they sell the oil for 16.00 per quart

Marine gear lubes are designed to keep a fair amount of water in suspension to limit the damage it would do.

I don't think I've paid over 10 bucks for merc high perf gear lube. Whatever it's cost, it's well worth it for the extra protection it gives.

I would also continue to use it, the quart I bought was at a marina at the lake, like gas stations by the exit ramps, I'm sure they get top dollar. Also as I said I have changed twice with a bit left over, so even at the high price it works out to about 6.75 per change, and I know I am using what Merc reccomends
