Are you sure its oil? Looks like it has been dripping down from above.

What do you use in your trim pump? It almost looks like transmission fluid - overfill the trim pump perhaps??

As pointed out--that is your outdrive trim pump in your picture.

First step is to clean up the oil...then cycle the trim to both limits (you don't need the engine running to do this)...and look for any leaks. The one hydraulic hose fitting nearest the reservoir cap looks wet...but that may just be residual from a different leak.

Happy boating!

I would maybe agree with dripping in, there is staining in the bilge like it is water that is evaporating. leaves and or pine needles and water? notice also that it is on the cap and top of the trim pump resivoir. Did you feel/ smell it?
also on the transom there is what looks to be a vertical stain.

one variable i just came up with, around christmas time i realized i left the drive up about mid way (was up for around 2 months). i then proceeded to let it all the way down, so maybe that is it? boat has to be stationary when the leak occurred, otherwise the oil would have splashed all over the place trailering it 15 miles back from the lake

Did you top off the reservoir tank while the outdrive was up? If so, when it was lowered it would have overflowed. Otherwise, simply lowering it would not have caused it - unless the fitting is leaking. Best thing to do is to clean it up and start running things and checking for leaks.

looks like leaf water, if not it it is pretty clear oil. the way it dried on cap makes it look like water. you can see a trail on the transom.

yea but he has to start somewhere and its so easy to dip into the tank and compare !
what would be above there that have have any thing like oil to drip down there?
no mention of anything stored above or finding empty containers on board ?

Looks like a waterleak through a (now) rotten transom to me. Seems the port tow-eye is the cause.

Re: What oil is this and where did it come from

whoa whoa whoa, you guys just caused a minor heart attack talking rot. was going to wait until this weekend to pull the cover off to do more inspections, but just read these post and ran out in the freezing cold (50 degrees with 5-10 mph wind gusts) and pulled the cover off to inspect things. well first off, it is water, but upon further inspection i am 90% sure it is coming from my fresh water hose that goes across the back and up to the little sink. The drip line starts at the blue hose and runs down to this corner where the water is. did not move the hose so i assume:rolleyes: its from a busted blue rubber hose. also the sea ray sundeck 210sd has the sea ray cover and is parked underneath a carport attached to the house, so the boat usually gets mist but not rain. hopefully this is the problem, if we get warm weather this weekend, i will take a closer look
thanks

I don't know which is worse - water or oil. That's supposed to be his fresh water going to his sink! If that's his fresh water he may have some more issues! :D
