I just bought a bass boat with a 97' 175 mercury black max. The oil tank is running low. I bought some 2 stroke oil in Walmart and its color blue. When I opened up the oil tank, it has a motor oil colored greenish tint color. Would that be a special mercury oil? Maybe synthetic? would it be o.k. to mix? or should I stick to the same oil? please help:confused:

The greenish stuff is most likely Mercury Quicksilver, which is what I use in all my Mercs and recommend to you.

If you bought WalMart's SuperTech TC-W3 it will work just fine and cost quite a bit less than branded oil. If you believe the advertising hype that runs the price of branded oil up then buy the most expensive outboard oil you can find.

Price tip...
Most shops (dealers) get oil in bulk - 55 gallon drums.
Some will sell it quite cheap.
One particular shop I know sells it at almost half the price of the bottled flavor on the store shelves.
The catch - gotta bring your own jug.

I've noticed motor oils have taken quite a jump (along with everything else).
I use a lot of HD30 which has doubled.
I haven't had to buy any 2 stroke oil this year (fell into a case two seasons ago for $10/gal. I'll probably get sticker shock whenever I have to buy a jug off the shelf.

Thanks for answering my questions fellows.. Just wondering if its O.K. to mix the blue oil with the greenish quicksilver oil?

Mixing the two should not be an issue. I have mixed all kinds of 2 cycle oil over the years w/o issue. You sometimes get a "tasteless" color however, LOL.
