Look for model numbers on engine valve cover. Does outdrive have a badge with a cobra on it? What color drive?

Re: What OMC Model # is on my outdrive?

The color is dark grey and there is a Cobra badge on the side of the outdrive.
Model ID. tag on drive says 985268
Omc original owners card has the numbers 302AMFTC.
I cannot find 302AMFTC anywhere on the drive.
Does this indicate a replacement???
There is no power steering.
The original owner's book on the outdrive says OMC COBRA and KING COBRA (340).
Does this mean that when I look for parts/props/accesories, that I can use items from the 400 or 800 series drives or not?
Thanks for your help.
Mike.

Mike...you have answered your own question, you have a Cobra drive which came out in 86-87 and is different from a 400 or 800 series. As Clanton said the engine model # 302AMFTC. should be on the valve cover

I have parts book, if you are having problems getting parts. 2 things INPORTANT to check, oil in engine and oil in outdrive. The outdrive has a dipstick in top of gearcase, look for large screw with single slot in top of case for screwdriver, if oil level is low it melts a very expensive set of gears.

Re: What OMC Model # is on my outdrive?

Clanton and Boatin Bob, thanks for the info. I was unable to check the valve cover because the boat is all shrink wrapped for another wonderful Niagara winter.
Parts that I do need, I could only find listings under 400-800.
1. I need a magnesium (trim anode mount just above and rear of prop???) sacrificial thing for boating in fresh water to stop the corosion on the GIMBLE ? housing. Original is painted gray like the out drive.
2. Spare props for my drive
Any hints for locating these items?
Thanks again.
Mike.

Re: What OMC Model # is on my outdrive?

Dear oar master - its the round trim tab that mounts behind and above the prop. After watching a show on tv (you know which one), the host of the show said it should be magnesium for fresh water. That was on a merc. drive and I cannot find one for my omc. I think the drive book says it is a zinc but mine is painted and I think that is what's causing the corrosion on the gimble housing. WHere can I find this accessory?
