I am trying to figure out what outdrive I have, hoping its not a stringer.I have an 1983 Galaxy cuddy cabin model 210CC.It has a OMC 2.5ltr. 4 banger with OMC outdrive.I should probably repower the boat anyway,120HP doesnt move that big boat all to well.Any input is greatly appreciated.

My personal choice would be the Volvo. The 3.0L engines for both Merc and Volvo are based on the Chevy 3.0L, the drive makes the difference. I don't like the clunking and banging of dog clutches, but do like the smooth shifting and no shift interrupt system in the cone shift system of Volvo.

Before jumping on that horse, you need to check to be sure your transom is strong enough to hold an outdrive. Being the stringer models doesn't hang off the transom, you might have a problem there. I've also run into the transom being either too thin or too thick for the Mercruiser transom assembly and had to be modified.

Hey Kracker. Welcome to the board.
I agree with both Don S & Capt. Ken.
I repowered my 23' '76 IMP Inca with a Volvo. Greatest system out there IMHO. Also like Ken said make sure your transom is thick enough. My was almost 2". If you need ideas about plugging the big hole covered by your rubber boot let me know I'll tell you how I did it. Oh I did mine in early 2000 have over 250 hours on the set up and "knock on my wooden head" no problems.
