Re: What outdrive is this??

A picture would sure help. Even going by color doesn't work. One guy kept saying his drive was black and was a Mercruiser. Turned out someone had installed a Mercruiser engine into a stringer drive setup and the outdrive was painted with black bottom paint. It was black, but it was still an OMC stringer that should have been painted white.<br /><br />It doesn't take great big pictures, just small ones that will fit the text box is all that is needed in most cases.

Re: What outdrive is this??

from a google search, another question contained this:<br />"The boat is a 1975 Wescraft 19XL Super Sport (19 foot). The drive<br />is an OMC I/O with a Ford 351 engine. Model:981110 Serial:W154007"<br />-not the most reliable way to figure out what you have, but a start...would make it an OMC stringer, electric shift and probably high profile...

Re: What outdrive is this??

Thanks for the responses. The drive came from a 1977 24 ft Wellcraft Airslot connected to a Ford 351W. I pulled the motor and put it in my 23 ft. Cruiser. I assumed that the drive was a 235 hp 800 series like my existing one, but I've been told that this is probably a 400 series. I'm attempting to include pics of the upper and intermediate and the lower unit (if I can figure out how to do that). I may have to put them on a site or something. I appreciate the help !

Re: What outdrive is this??

You need to have your pictures on the web somewhere. Then once you have a URL for them, just use the full reply form and click the image button. In the popup, put the URL of the pic and click ok. Ad as many as you want, then hit Add reply and you have pictures in your post.<br />Some picture hosting sites don't allow direct links. If that happens, just copy and paste the url of your pictures in the post and we can click on the link to look at them.

Re: What outdrive is this??

Hystat....thats a great site for parts etc. I've been able to ascertain that it is a post 1967 low profile from the length of the exhaust housing (11") and the fact that the exhaust cover has 5 holes instead of 4. I found the # 981084 on the intermediate. The model # on the upper gearcase unit is 981110. There are no numbers I can see on the lower unit. I'm gonna try again to post a pic, thanks for you guys help!

Finally! Thanks for the coaching on the pics. That last one was meant to show the model and serial #s, but as you can see it didn't turn out well. Those numbers are in the first post. If a pic of a specific componet from a specific angle would be helpful, I'd be happy to post it. Thanks again for the invaluable assisstance!!

Re: What outdrive is this??

By the way....don't know if this is appropriate to post this here (but I'm sure JB or someone will tell me), if anyone is interested in a 1977 24 ft Wellcraft Airslot hull thats been sitting in my pasture for a year or so and will bring a trailer to East Central Alabama to haul it away, it yours for the taking....
