what outdrives will fit

I have a mercruiser 470 engine with a pre alpha outdrive? (boats a 1977,outdrive has a loop hole casted into the top) can i put a alpha upper on with my prealpha lower? And what other outdrives mount to my housing?

That would depend on whether the lower has a preload pin on the drive shaft.......
You would also need to get the right gearing in the upper.....
You really should think about either getting a new or used complete drive with the proper gearing or get your present drive disassembled, innards checked, & re sealed.....
If you put a good upper on & there is crap from the failed bearing in the lower, you are still looking at a gear case failure....
How soon, who knows......;)

what other "complete" outdrives would mount to my housing or do i need everything that mounts to rear of boat or what....this is my first boat, drove it for 2 minutes so I have NOOOO clue about these things...thanx

Any Alpha style generation 1 will bolt right on......
888, R, MR, Alpha one......
Just make sure the gear ratio iin the upper is right.....
You need a 1:84 to 1......:)
