i think what you mean is zinc chromate, its the yellow /green looking primer used on most original older motors.also know as self etching primer.Bombardier sells original color paint for their engines in 12 oz spray cans. Other than the color, it's like most all other paint. The unique thing is that if you are painting over any bare aluminum, you need to use a special zinc phosphate primer for optimal adhesion.
The Bombardier factory OD green primer we sell now is branded zinc phosphate... Perhaps the old chromate component was hazardous to the environment and they had to alter the mixture.
apparently in some juristictions zinc chromate has been banned ,luckly for me were not one of them.unfortunately our bombi dealer no longer exists.most paints and primers are not very good for the body hence the need for masks and in some cases suits.BK i got my primer from canadiantire ,dupli-color,zinc chromate primer.as for a paint for the motor id use an epoxy based paint myself, tuff tuff tuff!imron also springs to mind, not sure if they make that any more. The Bombardier factory OD green primer we sell now is branded zinc phosphate... Perhaps the old chromate component was hazardous to the environment and they had to alter the mixture.
im positive your 100 percent correct, though in latter days lots of us used it,the way we painted years ago and the way we paint today are totally alien from each other.Imron is not for amateur application. It's vapors are extremely toxic and requires a mask with external air supply to use. Don't even think about it, even if you can get it.
Cougar,
No offense meant. I just think a lot of people have "heard" of Imron and think that anybody can apply it. We both know that's not true. You have to have a lot of knowledge and equipment to apply it safely.
"Rattle Can" paints-today-are surprisingly good and accesible to the average Joe.
