What part would someone call a "head" on an outrive?

Title says it all. Going to look at a boat and the guy says it leaks a little gear oil after the marina put a new "head" on the outdrive? I've always had outboards and have no idea what this means or how bad or costly it will be to fix? Thanks in advance!

Don't feel bad. I'm unsure as well. Won't even speculate. Please tell us dummies when you find out!

Ha ha! Regardless of what it is am I correct to assume if oil can get out, water can get in?

It depends on what "head" the seller means. If he means lower unit or the upper, water could get in.

"No water can not get in . The head is on top of the out drive which turns the drive that's all". Does that help?!

Im going to take a wild-arse guess and since the lower is sometimes referred to as the foot, maybe he is talking the upper gear box.

which drive? I ask because if its a 290, the upper gear case is apparently made of gold or palladium based on the prices.
