My first post!!! What does everyone use or recommend for a polish or wax? I was thinking about getting the Meguilar's 3 step polish/wax. What do you recommend?

Hey Sully - welcome aboard !

First off it all depends on the condition of your boat right now. If in good shape then just a good wax. If poor and oxidized really bad then you'll need to use some buffing compound followed by a good wax. As far as which products to use - I'm not gonna' go there. I have my choices - others have theirs. ( I like the Fleetwax ) .

If you are going to do any buffing on the boat invest in a buffer and a good quality buffing pad, not that cheap old one that sometimes comes with the buffer. Buffing anything by hand is a workout, but a boat makes a care look like child?s play.

3m has a great product. it is called fiberglass finisher and restorer. use this if you have chalky gelcoat, then get a wax with a high carnuba wax content. carnuba is the longest lasting and best shining wax out there imho. i used the finish restorer on my 35' motorhome and it wasn't that big a chore, but it did bring back that new finish.

big sully; i have used the meguiar's 3 step polish/wax and and the 3M restoter+wax mphy mentioned. while the meguiar's is a good product the
3M restorer wax is a lot easyer and quicker to use. used both with a power buffer.the 3M had the added advantage of being able to do small areas by hand where as it took me for ever to try to any thing by hand with the meguiar's.
allso mphy is 100% right about carnuba wax but make sure you use boat wax and not car wax

If the fiberglas is REALLY oxidized, get some Vertglas and apply it. It will make a world of difference.

I've been using Mother's carnuba wax for years, great stuff.
