I am changing out my engine for a chev 350. I will be installing a new alpha outdrive with 1.47 gear ratio. This is going into a 24 foot fiberglass (70's) cabin cruiser. So what would be the best size prop? I will be using this boat for fishing. So I do not need speed. Thanks for any input.

Re: What prop size to use?

We have no idea since we have no data to work with! There is a "sticky" right at the top of this forum titled "READ THIS FIRST". Read the sticky, do the testing with the prop you have and give us the numbers. Until that happens we can only guess what prop is "best". Prop selection is a trial and error process but we can get you close with some basic test data. It doesn't matter if you want speed or not. The best prop is one that allows the engine to run at the manufacturers recommended WOT RPM with what you consider an average load. If the prop is wrong at WOT it wrong at any throttle setting.
