What remote controller to use?

I have a 1998 Johnson 35hp, today my 7ft gear and throttle cables arrived.I tried to install them into the remote controller that came with the outboard.It was used on the port side.My speedboad requires it to be on the starboard side.I tried to strip it down and convert, but somehow it is in a million pieces now! I need to find another one as a replacement. Can I use a Quicksilver remote or must it be of Johnson/OMC only?

Johnson / OMC remote or you will end up with a frankenstein invention........

I would suggest an OEM 1998 accessories manual part 520213.

I have also found a controller from BRP, part number 5006180.I think this will work.
