How thick should the transom skin be? I?m currently doing a rebuild on a 1962 16? Glasspar Avalon and I?m not sure if the transom was redone anytime in the past (4th owner). This Glasspar has the curved (bowed) type of transom (like the Glasspar Citation). From what I can see is that there are two layers of CSM as the outer skin of the transom. The hull is basically one layer of roving inside and CSM on the outside. I had no issues with the boat when it was running a 50 hp Mercury and 20 hp Johnson spare hanging on it. Anyone know how thick the factory transom skin is? Should I thicken the skin? Thanks.

Re: What?s too thin?

18' Astro (just went to the shop and measured for you) varies from 3/16" to 1/4", it's rated for 175 HP. Now as to what your boat is from the factory, I have no idea. Just thought this might help as a reference. But if you're having no issues, I'd go with "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

You could always add a layer of 1708, since you're there anyway.
