What setting for tach?

I have an 1987 Evinrude 70hp (3 cyl) and I just purchased an OMC tach - what setting should I set on the back? I understand that the 3,4,5,6 etc does not mean cylinders - but number of pulses?<br /><br />Help!

The tachometer operates off of the engine's charging system which emits 6 pulses. Set the tachometer to number six (6).
