Who is your favorite LOCAL dealer and what does he sell?? All other things being equal, service after purchase should be a factor in your decision...

Hi, Mako Fanatic. I agree with ODDD1. You will be very unhappy with an engine that you can't get quality service on.

The two engines you are considering are very different. If I had good local dealers of both I would go for the 4 stroke.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

those guys are right--service after th esale is key. Good choice on the 4 stroke--much easier on environment. Have you looked at the Yamaha? I have a friend who sells marine supllies--not engines--but services those that do and they and their clients like the Yamaha hands down. They have a 4 stroke too. My next engine will be a Yamaha. Heard the Merc Optimax has had some problems. good luck.

Re: what should i buy Suzuki or mercury?

Just curious what are the prices of these two units does anyone here know that.

I've purchased a new boat and moter, the Suzuki was not in the running for many reasons one I don't have a dealer any where near me and the dealer I've used for many years does not sell them. I am also a merc fan.

But I really would like to know what a suzi 140/4 would cost off the shelf. And if you also know what is the cost of the merc 150/2 salt/opti & standard salt EFI.

I had looked up the 150XR6 merc. I Cant understand why merc has 3 - 150/2's I guess when the four comes out they will drop the XR6 or standard salt EFI. My guess it will be the EFI so they can have a cheap 150 and they will still have the opti.EFI.

Thanks a lot

P.S. One thing I was surprised is that the suzi 4 and the merc 2 are around the same weight. I know the opti adds more weight over the XR6 carb but I had no idea a 4 could be as light as a 2. Wonders never...

:)

Go back about a week on this very forum and read the horror story of some of the Suzuki owner relating to parts. I read them and was shocked to hear about all the problems owners are having with getting parts for their Suzuki engines...Do your research before you buy...If no one local can guarantee service, stay away from them!

Re: what should i buy Suzuki or mercury?

Thanks JRJ, sometimes it's quicker getting answers here than on the internet sites, thats IF they post it. It would be so much more helpful if the manufactures posted the MSRP but I guess they want you in a dealership so a salesman can talk you into making a purchase.

Makofan, the info that Wilsonjg noted, you really should read as part of your homework,
Click here --> http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=005987

All manufactures have problems and I don't think all suzi's have these problems. We are just letting you know so you can make as educated a decision as possible.

Good luck with your homework and your new motor when you get it, whatever you get :)
