I have a 1988 Merc200 Ser# 624489 No spark at the plugs.I checked the ohms and the only reading I get is on the red lead (150) and the red/white lead (151).When I checked between the blue and red nothing and the same for blue/white and red/white.I would hate to buy a 165.00 stator and that not be the problem. My wife is really on my butt to go out on the water this weekend. Thanks for any help

The stator and trigger are the only components common to all six cylinders. The shop manual has tests to determine which component has failed. Typically, the stator should have an output voltage => 100 vac while cranking. There are also resistance checks which can help isolate which componment has failed.

Not quite right. The switchboxes and coils are also the same.

You'll need a meter called a DVA (Direct Voltage Adapter).

achris, "Not quite right. The switchboxes and coils are also the same." is incorrect. There is a coil per cylinder and two switchboxes. There's only ONE trigger assy and ONE stator. Failure of one coil loses spark to only one cylinder, failure of one switchbox kills three cylinders.

Thought you were referring to all six cylinder engines, not the six cylinders of an engine.

Spark gone on all six cylinders is the kill circuit, not the stator or triggers. There are 4 stator windings, 2 high speed and two low speed. If one of those was gone you'd loss spark on 3, not 6, cylinders.

Chris.............

Here's a description of the entire ignition system that is posted in another thread. It will help you undersatnd how everything fits together.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=018599;p=1#000002
