I am putting a barrier coat on my older boat and under the outdrive is an anode bolted through the fiberglass transom that needed to be removed. It has a wire from the bolt that passes through the transom and is grounded to the engine. It took all I had to remove this being way down under the engine with enough things in the way that I don't really know how I am going to connect the wire back on let alone thread the nut back on.
The OMC outdrive has its own anode as part of the exhaust system. I don't think the one mounted to the fiberglass is doing anything to protect the metal parts and assume it is just part of the grounding circuit. (Am I right?) I want to abandon this thing if it isn't doing anything for me.
On the other hand, if it is functional, I would prefer to seal up the holes that the bolts go through and just mount it with screws on the outside and run a wire to the outdrive...it is grounded by a wire to the engine anyway.
I would apreciate some guidance on this since all I know about the subject is what I researched this morning on the internet.
Thanks.
