I have a chance to buy a 1985 Mariner 5 HP outboard.It's a one owner motor just completely serviced about a year ago,lower unit seals,new water pump,new spark plug,carb cleaned ,etc. .It comes with the owner's manual,original tool kit ,3 1/2 gal.remote tank,lower unit oil,and oil for the fuel.Asking price is $350,is that a fair price ?

Supply and demand. I would look on eBay and maybe craigslist to compare prices. Good luck.

Most motors I see that go for sale "used" go for 100$ a horse. Bought my 4hp for 450 but is was a mercury.

That's a very fair price with a tank. If that's a single cylinder motor though (which it sounds like since you said plug) I would recommend finding a twin. My dad had a single cylinder 5HP Merc and it had a lot of vibration. My 4HP Evinrude twin cylinder was much much smoother running.

Not a bad or great price, but better deals are out there. If you really wanted "that motor" it wouldn't be bad, if you just need to get "a" motor, then it's not great.
