I picked up on this type question herein and agree. Water above about 140 degrees apparently leaves lots of deposits in your engine. To minimize that, engine designers set the stats right below that. For example, my '02 Merc 90 has a 120 degree pellet......stamped on it.<br /><br />Supposed to start opening withing +/- 5 degrees of that. My overtemp warning horn is set to 190 degrees.<br /><br />HTH,<br /><br />Mark
