I have a 2004 bass tracker deep v Targa 92in beam. I am getting ready to do alot of lake ontario trolling for trout this year and I need to know what size, trolling?kicker motor I would need to achaive a 2-3.5 mph troll?. A buddy of mine has a 7.5 horse game fisher that I could prob get my hands on but I am not sure if that will push this boat in the lake at 2 or 3 mph. The boat is equiped with a mercury 50 horse 2 stroke. but I am afraid that a low rpm troll will load this motor up if runniong it at 1.5 to 2hrs at a time. The boat fully loaded with me and passengers weighs about 1700 pounds. also is it ok to troll with a 2 stroke? I dont have the funds to purchase a 4 stroke. Thanks in advance for your input.
Nick
p.s. just measured my transom where the kicker would go,its about 22in, what length shaft would be suitable for the gas powered trolling motor? thanks

You are probably better off with the two stroke for extended trolling. Four strokes tend to "make oil" (dilute the oil with fuel) when trolling for extended periods. My suggestion is to just use the 50 and see how it goes. If necessary, open it up for a bit to clear it out. otherwise a 7.5 would be fine, however be aware some of the gamefisher motors were air clooled, single cylinder engines that vibrated like crazy. An older 7.5 - 9.9 two stroke Evinrude/Johnson/Merc would work fine.

If you are on a large body of water, especially one that is part of the international shipping lanes, you need a marine radio, know how to use it, and a kicker would be in order.
