I have a 1978 Blue Fin Aluminum boat with a 40 HP evinrude. It has a side console.I was thinking about repowering it.Does anyone know what size HP I could go up to without having to much power or under powered.I will use the boat for fishing and some water sports with the kids.A little tubing and sking.
Thanks

Re: what size motor

There may be a plate on the transom indicating capacity and hp.
Give us the details on the boat.length, beam deepest part transom height.
There is a coastgard formula for figureing hp..I don't have the address.Someone may be along with more info.

What does the plate say? That's the legal and safe limit.

Bare bones open utility?Floor?Bait well? etc.
Typical bare bones tiller boats in your demensions run 25 to 30 hp
Remote might be 35 hp.
