What size motor????

hey everyone... i have a 12 footer...deepv... aluminum...rated for 15hp...i have a 15hp gamefisher, circa `1995... runs great... but if i have 2 adults in the boat, SLOW SLOW SLOW...like 5-10 mph if i am lucky... with jsut me, i can get going like 20.... eventhough its rated for 15 hp...can i throw on a 20 or 25hp...? its a heavy boat, plywood floor, 3 seats....thx for your help

something wrong with your motor, gamefishers are not the most powerful of motors, but still, it should sing along with 2 people. i used to plane my 12' with an old evinrude 7.5hp

seems like its running great... with just me, i can cruise pretty good and get up on plane...with 2 in the boat... and conditions are a bit bumpy, i trudge thru the water like a tug...i tried adjusting the tilt...has 5 settings.... nothing much mattered.... maybe the gamefisher jsut doesnt' avhe the balls.... i skimmed down the lake yesterday to a fishing hole... took me 10 minutes...with 2 in teh boat, took nearly 30

Possibly your motor is only running on one cylinder?
It will still run "smooth" just lack power.

My 9.8 Tohatsu 4 stroke easily planes a 16' jon boat
with two people, gear and 100+ lbs. worth of dogs.

I have a 15 pushing a 14' trihul, much heavier than your aluminum v. It moves at 20 with two people no problem. I should think there is a problem with your motor. Just curios is it a long or short shaft motor? A longshaft on a boat made for A shortshaft will have alot more drag moving through the water.

How heavy are the 2 adults, and how heavy is the gear you're hauling? You may also improve performance by shifting the load.

If it goes 20 with you alone in the boat, it is running ok. You are overloading the boat. Overpowering it is not the solution. That can make it faster, but dangerous.
