Spring is getting near and my fishing fever higher, I need some help trying to figure out what size trolling motor to buy. I have checked the previous post and still somewhat confused.
The boat is a 1963 starcraft alum. vee I will be mounting it on the transom, most of the time there are 3 people plus gear. I have two outboards that I use depending on lakes and rivers a 5hp and a 25 hp.
Some of the smaller lakes only permit elec. motors and I would more then likley also use it in the Missouri river. I'am not looking for speed only to get around on small lakes and maybe as backup in the river. I don't want to spend a lot but want something that will work for both applications.
Any ideas on thrust, brands and 12 volt versus 24 volt?
Thanks in advance for all replies.
Ray

Re: What size motor?

You are not giving us much to go on regarding the size/weight of your boat. If this is a 14/15 foot row boat a 30# thrust motor would do the job. If you are in a 15/16 foot you would probably use a 36#. Go to Minnkotas web site. They have selection charts that will help.

Upinsmoke, thanks for the reply. It is just a 14 foot fishing boat nothing fancy. Just don't want to buy something too small, and don't need anything to big. I'll check out the minnkotas web site.
Thanks again for the help.
Ray
