What size tools?

I want to build up a tool kit specifically for working on my Johnson motor. I can't buy an AF/imperial socket set, or set of AF/imperial wrenches, without having to buy a set that also includes metric ones. So the best way for me to build up the tools, is to buy them individually.

Could anyone tell me which sizes of wrench's and sockets I would need to perform routine maintenance and repairs on my engine?

Thank you.

Re: What size tools?

Post the model number or the year and horsepower of your motor so we can best tell you what sizes are needed.

As for wrench's 3/8 to 9/16 combination. As for socket's, get a 1/4 drive ratchet with extensions, plus a wobbler socket set 5/16 to 9/16. This will fit most of what you want for minor maintenence. As for a tool set, I have a double garage full, been buying a life time! still buying.

My engine is a 1980 Johnson 55 electric start.

I don't have any Whitworth tools, here in the U.K, we are being slowly taken over by europe and therefore can only buy tools in metric sizes, unless you buy them individually  (

Why don't you order a set of of tools from the USA? Doesn't Sears, Northern, JC Whitney, etc ship outside the USA? I would think that the cost of shipping would be offset by the savings of buying a toolset one piece at a time.

Mark.

Re: What size tools?

Steviecops, I've been thinking along similar lines myself, about buying a set of tools especially for my 1958 Johnson 18hp. Most of my tools are metric for my 1969 and 1972 VWs, so I need to buy some AF sockets.
You can get AF socket sets from Machine Mart no need to go to the expense of importing from the USA or buying individual sockets!
