What size winch do I need?

So after first day boat , cable on winch almost breaks...actually right after I hooked safety chain on, whew!

I have a 1983 Kayot deck boat, 2700 lb net weight, and I want to switch to a strap.

1/2 of your boat weight. So you would need a 1350 lbs minimum
