What spark plug gap to use?

I have a 1984 70 hp Evinrude and the shop manual calls for a .040 spark plug gap but everywhere else I check says .030 . Which gap should I use.

.030 is fine,and a new reccomendation.The .040 is the old spec they used back in 1984.
