Hello!
First time boat owner, and first time poster! A newbie in every sense of the word. I don't have anything vintage like many of you (though I guess that depends on the definition of the word vintage) but I would like some info on a vintage boat that I'm having trouble ID'ing.
I bought a used 1996 Starcraft 1710 earlier this summer and finally got it clean and working in good condition. I've had a lot of fun working on it...and learning on it. Next summer, I should feel more comfortable having my kids/wife on it more often outside of cruising around on a couple small all-sport lakes. It didn't need to much work, it was in good shape when I bought it. I had to install a new bilge blower, and that was about it mechanically (outside of normal maintenance.) I'll post pics another time if interested.
Now for the Boat ID question. I learned what little I know about boats from a great uncle when I was young. He had a Small Starcraft outboard bow rider with a V hull. (Bear with me, I'm working off memory from a long time ago.) he used to tool around between Tawas and Au Gres, Mi. (At one time he actually owned Charity Island...when there was nothing on it other than the lighthouse that was falling apart, I guess they've fixed that place up and its a seasonal restaurant now). It had a 3 piece boxy window, it was yellowish brown color with a strange star craft graphic on the side. Probably a 16-19 foot boat, but my memory has faded to the point where I can't remember specifics. No radio, or swim platform, or any options really of any kind. I was taught to fish off it, and basic seamanship on it. He probably got rid of it when I was 13 years old, and barely put it in the water for a few years prior. It was docked and covered most summers as his health failed, and than stored most winters The last time I saw it was 1989 or so. Last time I was on it, was probably more like 1986. He had it when I was very young in the earlier 80's, and it seemed old to me then, I 'm guessing 1976 or older on the year...but I have no clue. I've looked around the Internet for a likeness, but nothing is stirring my memory. I've been browsing this threads, and bits and pieces come back, but nothing that yells that's it!!!
Any help on model/year of something close to what I'm describing? I'd love to track down a picture of it, or a similar model for my boat...kind of a full circle kind of thing....
