What tabs to order?

I've decided I need to install some trim tabs to assist with planing, and staying on plane at lower speeds.

My boat is a 1981 Sea Ray SRV 195, 20' with 8' beam. With 290 HP engine, and MC-1 drive. When I add fuel injection this fall, it will easily be 300 HP.

I was looking at smart tabs, but they seem to only have models intended for boats up to 240 HP.

Any recommendations on what to get?

I don't need any manually adjustable tabs, since I wouldn't know how to use them anyway, and this boat is only used for water sports. I just need a cost-effective answer to lower planing speeds, and less bow rise on take off.

I thought Smart Tabs was that answer, but apparently not, based on the higher horsepower of my boat.

Call them and tell them what your set-up will be. They will come up with a solution for you.

Send them pictures of your boat and the transom area. That is what I did and it reeally help with my problem. I had to have a different set up also, because of the size of my boat and the horsepower.

Call them and tell them what you have, they will work with you.

You probably need either the ST1290-80 or the SX9510-80 for your setup. I would think more to the ST1290-80, Stainless Steel for the horsepower than the SX9510-80 Composite. Just my thoughts. Talk to John he will get it right, whichever he recommends is what you will need.

Why did you add fuel injection? Was it for the extra 10hp (or about 3.5.% increase) or was it for more practical reasons, like the carb was bad and you wanted better fuel economy and easier starting.

That was a huge pile of money to spend for 10hp gain, which in a boat, won't even show up in performance.

Re: What tabs to order?

The Grendel came to me, with a set of Boat leveler tabs. When new the boat had a 250hp. set-up, I contacted Boat Leveler ( Insta -Trim ) with the serial # off the pump housing, to see how old the tabs were, they were made in late 68-early 69, and besides a leaky port ram (seal kit in STOCK), they still work!

Anytime I see a company, where they still stock parts, for a 40 year old product, they get my business!

Thought the carb was bad, hate carbs anyway, boat at different elevations, and don't like dumping fuel straight through the engine, and into the water at 6000' of elevation, then running lean at 2000'.

I'm more familiar with fuel injection, more comfortable with it. Planning on installing CNG (compressed natural gas), and will utilize the same sensors, fuel savings alone will be enough to pay for the fuel injection system, let alone CNG system.

Pretty much EVERYTHING about the conversion just made sense.

Don't know that the power increase will ONLY be 10 HP either. But even if it's exactly the same as what I'm getting now, the rest of the benefits FAR outweigh the cost...
