What kind of tach can I hook up to my 1980 115hp Chrysler, 12 or 20 poles?

Would I just connect the pulse lead to one of the AC leads from the stator?

I replaced the ignition module with one from CDI (115-3301) and I also replaced the regulator/rectifier with a rectifier from Radio Shack.

After a few years of working on this boat, new floor, stringers, powerhead etc., on Sunday I started the motor for the first time! Weehoo!! :D

TIA,
Rick

Only the 55 and 65 HP Chryslers used a 20 pole stator.

Becareful with that rectifer. I bought one from RS also and the voltage kept climbing well past 16 volts. Might boil your batteries. you probaly be better offwith a regulator witrh a rectifier inside.

Thanks Sweeper, I'll keep an eye on the voltage.
