What the heck are these pieces??????

This is the state of my motor right now..LOL


While washing and degreasing 33 years from the motor and bottom cowl. I found these little pieces and this little bushing thing.


My guess is the black pieces are from the casting of the block or something. I can't find anywhere that they might have broke from.

I know thses may be difficult to identify but the bushing looks kind of important...
It's a 1978 90 merc

that looks like a cap on a power wire that is faded or a cap to some thing that fell inside there when some 1 was changing some thing out

That bushing goes right under the bottom of the carb where the shift shaft is. (engine block, bushing,and then the shift shaft that goes to the lower unit).I have no idea what those other 2 things are.I have the exact same motor and year that I rebuilt and I dont remember seeing those things anywhere.

Gomer I think you are close..But that's about the only thing I didn't take off. Could it go under that arm. Which would put it between the arm from the motor and the arm from the shift cable?

I think the other pieces are from the casting or something. Looks like they have been rolling around there for a while.

The plastic bushing could be this, item 2:

and it is also the kind used in the Merc Control boxes where the rotating components fit in the housings, though I don't know what it would be doing where you found it.

I looked at that before I asked on here. It does look like that, but it's not that big of diameter. I had the camera set on macro so I think it looks bigger than it actually is. It's only about 1/4'' in diameter.

I think it goes where Gomer confirmed.

The other pieces will always be a mystery...

Obviously a linkage bushing, similar to the one pictured on the shift linkage.

Have your model and serial #'s and go here, Search with pictures. Check all throttle, timing and shift linkages at the motor.
