Just spent 400.00 at bass pro shop getting motor fixed and still not running right. no spark on two cyl, replaced one switch box (250.00). He said should replace both at same time. Cant afford that. Motor ran great for about an hour than back to same problem. Will not idle after motor gets hot. And the primer bulb will not get hard after motor is warmed up either. I have to put it in fast ilde to keep it running. Do you think i need to replace the other switch box, if so can i do it with a aftermarket one. The motor is a 1986 90hp inline 6 mercury thanks for the help

I am wondering if maybe you have an air leak somewhere? Check all your fuel connections from your tank to your motor. What kind of shape is your primer bulb?

The primer bulb is a brand new mercury. Its gets firm when motor is cool, once motor is warm to hot, it will not get firm, Even when motor has sat idle for an hour or two in the sun while fishing. I know when motor is running, bulb may not go hard because fuel pump is working, but i would think after a few hours of sitting bulb would get hard again? thanks for your reply TD

Why not take it back to bass pro and tell them to make it Right. I have heard also to replace both switch boxes.???

Man, I would not throw on an expensive switch box unless you are absolutely sure it is bad. Like most electronic parts, it is generally good or bad....and you can't return electronic parts either. After checking the simple fuel things (like leaking connections, fuel tank vent open...etc..) I would buy a fuel pump rebuild kit (generally under $20) and see if that fixes your issue.
