(if its not OK to post threads in 2 different catigory's please delete this one)
I just purchased a boat, and the lower unit has a crack in the bullet... The shop said it had water in it... but can't tell how bad it is, the shaft (thing the propeller goes to) also has small bend probably from same impact...
1968 50hp thunder bolt mercury
Questions.
A) Would it be simply/possible for someone with no boat motor experience to open up the lower unit, to determin how bad it is, before i go out and buy another used one...
B) Do lower units have a shelf life ? If i buy another used one, that has no cracks/leaks, is it worth the 300 i've seen them go for, or will it likly have issues since it is also about 38 years old.
C) If i opened mine up, or had a shop do it, and find that its "Useabe" Do you think according to the picts below, its repairable ?
