I have an old 89' Searay 180(not that old but sure has taken a beating). It has a 3.0L merc and alpha outdrive. Just a bit of history on this boat. Sat in fathers in laws drive for more years than I can remember. Three years ago I decided I was gonna get her running again. After all the minor "tune up" stuff, it was time for a test. Well to make a long story short, freeze crack. Was just the water jacket and had someone help me fill it with marine tex. Next was the out drive. All seemed ok on shore but in the water there were shift problems. Had to trim it all the way up to get into forward. Looked kind of funny going only in reverse around the lake. Back at the garage, the "nut" that goes into the hub was stripped, and the lower seems to be frozen on. Anyway after many, many hours and more work than I care to do for this thing I am now left with what to with it. I do not know if the engine is still good, and it definatly needs a new outdrive(maybe just lower). Thinking about donating it to one of these charities and taking the write off. Any suggestions? I doubt it is worth anything.
