I picked up an old proline flat back with a crappy merc. The motor barely turns over and won't start. I think the pwerhead is shot but the foot may be in good shape. The motor is a late 80's early 90's 200 black max. What's my best coarse of action for this motor? I've got another motor for the boat so no use in trying to trade it in

Do you want to keep it? If not sell the parts on ebay and make some $$ for it.

Re: What to do with old merc

I recently cratered my 83 200hp black max. Only before i had just redone the lower unit and a new starter and rebuilt the carbs. Now to fix the motor is too much for the value after the repairs, but what hurts is the money i just spent. My though would be to purchase your engine, if the power head is any good and maybe still have some spare parts after taking the two to make one. My black max is a 1983, model 1200632. this is only my 3rd post, so i hope i am not in violation of the forum. I have resorted to doing my own work, mostly because no one in my area wants to work on engines that old.
