franken-rude? ruden-stein? evin-stein? franken-evin? (that sounds horrible haha).

basically, a member on here who will remain anonymous (unless he wants to speak up) sent me a damaged shortblock from a 88 60hp evinrude for my 84 70hp evinrude.

mine had a rod through the bottom of the block so at least assume the crank and middle rod are toast.

the short block he sent me have the same pistons/crankshaft as mine. I'm going to MIC the rods and see whats up there and compare the lower of the block but regardless I'm going to push forward with this project and document either the success or horror that results from it lol.

just want to pick a good name for the project before I get started on it and cant decide.

Having done what you're doing on more than one occasion, there is only one truly appropriate name on your list and it's the one everybody else has picked so far. Go figure... Money Pit.

Re: what to name this project?

well crap. I may be dead in the water with this project before I even get started.

I got the paperwork from my grandfather the other week for the engine and only glanced at it. didnt really look at it good...just noticed the writing on the top half but bottom half wasnt filled out. so I assumed it to be like an SC auto title (second half is for buyer to fill out and it was left blank/open).

went to the DNR the other day to update the tags on my boat to current so I can try to take it out this weekend and asked the lady about the engine (basically saying the title was open for so long if it was a problem). she asked me repeatedly if it had been filled out to another buyer or not as that would be a huge problem. I said no and she said it would just be a $60 late fee to get the title due to being past the 30 day title trasnfer limit.

sitting here at work and browsing other threads, it popped in my head so I grabbed the title out of my desk and sure enough, its filled out to some other person

god only knows if there will be any hoops but if the way the counter lady was talking is any indication, I might not actually be able to get a title to this engine sigh...

I've got a couple ideas but does anyone have the link to the boat/engine titling requirements by state? I saw it on here a couple times but never bookmarked it and cant seem to find it again.

oh dear god I dont even think I'm going to try to get a stupid title to this thing.

looked up both previous owners online and they have both apparently either moved or died so I cant call either of them.

dnr says I need to do an application for affidavit for titling... its retarded what the law says on page #4 of the paperwork.

http://www.dnr.sc.gov/boating/forms/pdf/affidavitinst.pdf

seriously? I have to wait for them to do their little investigation, THEN I have to send certified letters to the previous owners, THEN I have to take out three newspaper ads (the local paper is like a minimum of $45/week for an ad), then I'd finally get a title if nobody comes forward? if they come forward I'd have to take them to court...and you are darn sure I will make them pay storage fees per day...

lol, I just dont know but I dont think it will be worth it. but then again, most of the parts are untested so I would only get a couple bucks likely off ebay. argh!
