Can anyone tell me what type of cable I need for this helm ? The guy I bought the boat from didn't have the old one on there, just this helm.... I thought about replacing the whole thing but honestly I need to be as frugal as possible right now... Thanks in advance.

If you could supply a bit more information, someone here who is much smarter than I can probably help you. What type, size, age of the boat. What motor are you hooking it up to ? What does the hookup at the motor look like ?

good luck.

Save up and get new then you will not have to worry about anything. Sometimes you just have to do that.....

Looks like an old rack&pinion helm to me but it's anybody's guess as to manufacturer unless you can find some ID on it and post that info. The link below is to Teleflex's online library where you can read/download instruction manuals for some but not all of their products. Since they are the major provider of steering systems, maybe you can identify yours. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I honestly don't know squat about the helm or even if it came from the existing boat... I was told a standard 12' teleflex cable was what it needed from the guy I bought the boat from... but so far I haven't seen one that looks like it would fit it...

The helm is more or less a piece of 1" galvanized pipe with teeth on the spindle inside to catch on.... If I can't figure it out I'll have to do the whole thing I reckon..

Thanks for all the help fellas...Beamin1
