What type of seat to mount here? Is this boat worth $1600?

So I know I can get this boat for $1600. 1987 25 hp Mariner and 1987 Basstracker 16' with good trailer. Question is, I notice in this picture there's no driver seat. I'm AWFUL at repairing boat stuff, but seems like there must be a relatively inexpensive seat or mount or system I could hook onto that wood or something... Any ideas? Any links to what I should buy if I get this boat...

What do you think about this boat for $1600. Runs great.

I'd not want it but if in that market-- maybe $500... maybe not.

Older boat but priced well IMO, at that price point repairs are a given.

Why do you say that? It supposedly runs really well and they are lake testing it with me.

$500... wow. For a 16', with trailer, fish finder, and 25 horsepower Mariner? You must have the ultimate market!

As long as its in decent condition for it's age any fair price is a good one if you really want this particular boat. But keep in mind its still a 26 year old boat.

A decent seat is available online for $50-75. They attach by a swivel plate that bolts onto that bench using 4 bolts. Probably $10 for the swivel at walmart. They usually have the seats too.

Back to your seat. It is hard to tell distance in a picture but it looks like the drivers seat was mounted to the bench and was removed. If you can reach the controls from the bench we can help you mount a seat.

Continuing the price discussion. Here that would be a fair asking price and if it checks out with a strong motor probably not a bad. Markets vary greatly.purchase price.

$1500.00 doesn't seem that bad of a price, if it checks out mechanically. That asking price is about average around MN and Wi from what I have seen. See if you can get the price down; doesn't hurt to try. I also found some seats that might work. Check out the link below.

I would go with the camo cooler seat...two in one deal.

Based on the picture and what the owner may have used it for, looks like a drivers seat just got in the way.

How about getting a seat base, and moving one of the existing seats to be a drivers seat.

Those are some overkill fishing seats for that boat, if you put a $50 drivers seat on there with those lazy boys it would look ridicous!

Use one of the rocker /recliners as the drivers seat on a swivel and get some small fishing seats for those posts, or sell the seats on Craig's list and get seats that fit the boat.

I don't think that is a bad price at all. In colorado that boat would be on Craig's list for $3k. The motor may be a bit small, but if it runs, it wi get you on fish.

Some of the folks here have pretty high standards.

Thanks all!!! I'm going to check it out today. Are those seats hard to remove or so they just pop off the pedestals? I am going to look at the seats posted. Something with a back would be great. Can i get a seat without a swivel base and bolt it right into the wood? Is that swivel mechanism necessary?

This is what I understand too. Driver loved to fish, so he would go on small lakes and not cruise a lot.

Seller indicates work done to motor is carb rebuild and new starter. Are these red flags?

That style seat is usually 3 pieces, base, post and seat with base. There may already be an extra base mounted to the floor in one of the bench for the driver. If not adding a new base to the bench is a reasonably simple project.

Absolutely not provided they were done correctly.

Re: What type of seat to mount here? Is this boat worth $1600?

A neighbor of mine just sold a 1987 16' Bass Tracker that looked a lot like that boat, his sat in the weeds for years full of trash and mosquitoes for years, the transom was rotted, it had no seats, no motor, and the steering was seized up. He got $1500 cash for it from a passerby who had to have it. Aluminum boats in this area, at least those over 14' long that have papers bring a premium it seems compared to prices I see elsewhere.

If that were mine, unless there was some major issue with the hull, I don't think I'd let it got that cheap, even without a motor or trailer.
In this area I'd expect to pay upwards of $3500 for that. Something as minor as a missing seat or some rotten wood would be a non issue to me. A good water tight hull, and a good running motor are the most important items. Go try and buy the components of that package separately and see what they'll cost you.

Those seats though are overkill for that boat though in my opinion. I just sold a similar pair on CL for $350 that were in a 23' glass center console I stripped for parts. If you buy that , lose those heavy seats in favor of something lighter, and the bench seat tops look like OSB, not plywood, so I'd be replacing those as well. OSB don't hold up very well when wet, especially when it looks as old as that stuff does.

I have a buddy who had a similar boat. Standard folding boat seats is what use to be mounted to the bench behind the helm.
