I just bought a 1976 glastron gt 150 and the steering on it is really hard. When I go yo teleflex, what type of steering cables should I get? I have a 1975 johnson 75 hp outboard on it, if that helps.
Re: What type of steering does a 1976 glastron gt 150 have?
i would expect it to have a rotary system,...it has prob been changed over the yrs so,look under the dash...a round metal box is rotary,a long square skinny box,is a rack system...
Re: What type of steering does a 1976 glastron gt 150 have?
The original manufacturer of the steering cable heat-stamped the part number and length of the cable on the outer casing, about a foot from the back end. It is possible that that a teleflex dealer may be able to identify it by part number and suggest a current cable part number which will work on your boat. If you find the cable is just not available, you can purchase a Teleflex replacement cable kit which will include a new cable and the steering gearbox. It is not a hard to replace as you might think. Most boat manufacturers today recommend a dual cable steering setup for a 150 hp and above engine installations. A NFB system is also an option. (or a hydraulic system) You may need to pull the engine in order to install the steering cables, depending on your clearances in the splashwell area.

Watch "Live and let die" and you will have your answer lol
Look under dash its either a rotory or a rack system
Remove old system and measure cable length
(every time I change a steering system I get the wrong size cable) If its a rotary...
I suggest replacing entire system with a Teleflex no feed back system.
Change the complete system as they have come way down in price and used steering parts are scary.
